‘One size fits all’ policing in Scotland hugely damaging: Brown

5.21.15pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 22nd Jul 2010

Commenting on reports that the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (Asps) have said they are unhappy at being excluded from talks about changes to policing in Scotland, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP said:

“The Police Superintendents are quite right to be concerned about being excluded from important talks over proposed changes to policing in Scotland. The SNP Government really must think again about how they are approaching this divisive issue.

“The proposed changes are deeply concerning for policing in Scotland and for local communities. A possible creation of a one size fits all approach would be hugely damaging and Liberal Democrats will resist this every step of the way.

“Scotland needs a police service that is responsive to local needs not subject to central diktat and centralised targets. “
