MP criticises Chancellor for failure on Forth Crossing funding

2.09.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 22nd Apr 2009

West Fife MP Willie Rennie has criticised the Chancellor for failing to include funding for the replacement Forth Crossing in his budget.

Commenting on decision not to contribute an additional single penny Mr Rennie said:Willie Rennie MP: Dunfermline & West Fife

“This pantomime has gone well past the encore. The replacement Forth Crossing is a vital project that vital not just to Scotland but the whole of the UK as it’s part of the east coast transport artery. People and businesses are already anxious about the lack of funding for the crossing. We need this sorted now.

“Despite their overblown promises the SNP failed to raise a single penny for the crossing. It now seems the Labour Government is just as incapable.

“I would have thought the Prime Minister may have had a quiet word with the Chancellor to make sure it was in his plans but perhaps he’d prefer to play politics with the SNP than stump up the funds for this essential crossing.”
